Ask Kathy: Why am I not experiencing more joy in my life?

We asked Kathy Martin, a well known counselor with a thriving practice in Palm Beach County, if she would address questions brought to her by readers of One Christian Voice. And she agreed! Here is the first question we posed to her and her solution.

Hearts Are Changed, Lives Transformed Through ‘Hearts for Moms’

Lovely is a lovely name. Becca is, too. And there are countless more names of single moms, just like them, who were in hard and desperate places that are receiving real life transformations at the Palm Beach County based, HEARTS FOR MOMS MINISTRY.

Founder and passionate advocate for single moms, Angela Ball, Executive Director of Hearts for Moms, has had her own transformation. When Ball was 38, the Holy Spirit opened her eyes, touched her heart, and she surrendered her life to Jesus Christ.

There is so much trauma and so much healing needs to take place.

As Angela has yielded, along with countless volunteers, donors, and committee team members, the Spirit continues to expand Hearts for Moms to change the future for single moms in the Palm Beaches. From poverty and hopelessness to freedom and courage,  these women embark on an effective, practical and supernatural transformation. This is no light task, as Angela says, “There is so much trauma and so much healing needs to take place.” But God is doing it, because this is what God does with yielded vessels.

When you pass through the waters… they will not overtake you. Isaiah 43:2

 Challenges

Ball recalls her own experience of being overwhelmed with the change in her life when she gave birth to her wonderful and talented son, Ashton, now entering college. Angela, 33 at the time, shares emphatically that she was challenged as a stay at home mom even though she and her supportive and caring husband Ray had a good plan.

Patricia and Nikki, her mentor

“When reality hits, it’s a whole other task,” recalls Angela. As she continued her journey with the Lord, Ball noticed the Lord putting her around women’s ministry groups. That swirled into volunteering with non-profits, helping single moms. Eventually the thought hit her, “How can single mom’s do this? I had a husband,” and it disturbed her enough that she started asking around about creating another ministry avenue for these moms.  And yet, a deeper, more profound reason also propelled her. The kind of reason that can haunt a soul. At the age of 19, Ball had an abortion. As the Lord began healing her of that after coming to Christ, she thought of them, who living in the desperate places and giving birth to their children, as very brave.  Lacking finances, many with no family support, Angela felt deeply compelled to walk alongside these women and be a voice for them. “It is not enough for us to stand by their life-giving choice, as real life hits once the baby is born – then what?”, Angela expresses with a spirit of tenderness and passion.

Who knows if you haven’t come to the kingdom for such a time as this? Esther 4:14

Since its inception, Hearts for Moms has had three annual luncheons, the most recent at Breakers West Country Club in Royal Palm Beach with guest speaker, Brooke Thomas. Brooke is the founder and CEO of Live Out Loud, a nationally recognized women’s mastermind and group coaching organization.

Former speakers include Chris Norton, author of The Seven Longest Yards, and New York Time best selling author Lisa Bevere (Women With Swords, Lioness Arising, etc.). The funds raised from the luncheons, the Soirees the ministry hosts – complete with live auctions, and shopping sprees supported by local businesses such as Pineapple Kidz at Downtown at the Gardens, go to dedicated programs that include life mentoring and practical help.

Young Moms, Workforce Moms and other programs within Hearts for Moms, include a financial coach and supplemental costs in the areas of childcare, housing, transportation, biblical mental health counseling and education – plus tons of prayers and love. Other supporters of the God sent ministry include The Dive Bar, Brightway Insurance, Diamante Medical Skincare, Burn Bootcamp, Freedom Boat Club, The Sound Tank, First Care, Restoration Bridge, Dress for Success and numerous others in the Palm Beaches.

Hope is Here

The moms who are fortunate to find their way to the Spirit led ministry make a serious commitment including year-long, weekly meetings at Christ Fellowship Gardens Campus (Wednesdays 6pm to 8:30pm, including free childcare and dinner). Mentors pour over the women with love, practical skills, and dream work fueled by caring volunteers and the power of relentless prayer. The women face fears, trauma, insecurity, and a lack of identity, but are built up in love, authority, hope, grace and the mercy of God.

The nations will see your righteousness,
and all kings your glory.
You will be called by a new name,
a name bestowed from the mouth of the Lord.
You will also be a crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord,
and a royal diadem in your God’s hand.
No longer will you be called Forsaken,
nor will your land be called Desolate;
but you will be called My Delight,
and your land Married;
for the Lord delights in you,
and your land will be married. Isaiah 62:2-4

With a sense of urgency Angela shares that housing is the number one need for these women, bar none. The situation is a critical. Ball has a vision to expand to other parts of Florida and even nationwide. The seven member Board of Directors work carefully and diligently to practice Biblical principles in all they do.

Lovely and her 7 year old son

And remember the names Lovely and Becca? Lovely, mother of one son, formerly worked two full-time jobs to care for him, and was filled with fear and low self esteem. No hope. No way out.  Now, she has graduated with honors from Palm Beach State and is enrolling in a nursing academy to become a registered nurse and work in the emergency room.

And Becca? She once was a mom in financial chaos with little direction. She too took courage and became part of the Hearts for Moms Workforce Moms program and has had her own financial transformation.

“The King will answer them, ‘Most certainly I tell you, because you did it for one of the least of these my brothers, you did it for me.’ “ Matthew 25:40

When she was young, Angela Ball thought she would be an interior designer.  And she is – God uses her, and all involved at Hearts for Moms, to help design the souls and lives of these single moms into something stunning.

Becca and her daughterHe who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord, and the Lord will pay back that which he has given. Proverbs 19:17Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do it. Proverbs 3:27

Are you ready? To transform? Whether a volunteer, mentor, donor, or single mom in need of change, the Hearts for Moms ministry will touch your heart and change your life.

Get involved – today.                                                      Now is the acceptable time… 2 Corin 6:2
