ivil rights leader and legend, John Lewis, died at the age of eighty years old after a six-month battle with cancer.
I want to honor this man, through the Lord God, because He stood up for agape love and taught people of every race how to love one another past the color of their skin.
~”A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.”~John 13:34, ESV~
In the Bible, Jesus taught us to love each other through our actions. Lewis was the perfect example and model of the love of Christ because he demonstrated the love of Christ in the work that the Lord God called him to do through the Civil Rights Movement.
Lewis was the perfect example and model of the love of Christ because he demonstrated the love of Christ in the work that the Lord God called him to do through the Civil Rights Movement.
Lewis survived a beating by a member of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK), who asked Lewis for his forgiveness. Lewis forgave the KKK member and the both of them gave each other a hug and cried together as they soaked in the forgiveness power that is of Jesus Christ into one another past the color of their skin. What a beautiful moment of agape love and forgiveness in the history of the United States of America!
Forgiveness is not only an act of agape love; it is a direct reflection of the Lord Jesus Christ and His Lordship because of the work that Christ did for us on the cross: He died for our sins and He rose again from the grave for our sins.
Lewis was also a direct reflection of the grace of God in that he showed the member of the KKK grace by giving him a hug and crying with him as the both of them soaked and took in the healing of God that is through the agape love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ. Lewis demonstrated this grace of God through his actions as he showed this member of the KKK agape love and forgiveness.
~”Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”~1 John 4:7-10, ESV~
Jesus died so that we could fully experience and know of His grace, forgiveness, and agape love. Lewis successfully demonstrated all three of these acts of faith throughout his life on earth and I am confident that the angels and God Himself are rejoicing at welcoming him home into Heaven. Praise the Lord! Hallelujah!
We will remember John Lewis. We will never forget him. Praise the Lord for using this man to advance the love of God through the Civil Rights Movement in this lifetime! Thank You Jesus!
